Professor David GIBSON
Director, Learning Futures, Curtin University, Australia
UNESCO Chair of Data Science in Higher Education Learning and Teaching

Abstract This talk addressed the lessons learned through international co-research on digital team-based interactions by Hong Kong Baptist University and Curtin University. Advances in measuring collaborative problem-solving and data mining of chat transcripts as well as digital game results have led to automatic collection of new indicators of team-based learning using network analyses and visualisations as well as an active exploration of topic modelling in the context of collaborative conversations.

Abstract An international eTournament based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held early this year. The event attracted about 420 student participants from 42 regions/countries. During the eTournament, despite their different backgrounds in terms of discipline and culture, the students worked in teams on an online game platform to answer questions related to SDGs. In the session, winners of the eTournament shared their online learning experiences/challenges on how to work with people they had never met before so enthusiastically and strategically to achieve a common goal. Winners also shared things they had learnt from this innovative event.
